Blog Tour: Sweet Tea Tuesdays by Ashley Farley

On Tour with Prism Book Tours.

Sweet Tea Tuesdays
Ashley Farley
Women's Fiction
Paperback & ebook, 306 pages
May 3rd 2017

Three friends met every Tuesday for twenty-six years. And then they stopped.

From the author of the bestselling Sweeney Sisters Series comes a novel of friendship, family and hope....

When new next-door neighbors Georgia, Midge, and Lula first assembled on Georgia’s porch in Charleston for sweet tea, they couldn’t have known their gathering was the beginning of a treasured tradition. For twenty-six years they have met on Tuesdays at four o’clock, watching the seasons change and their children grow up, supporting each other in good times and in bad. With their ambitions as different as their personalities, these best friends anticipate many more years of tea time. And then, one Tuesday, Georgia shares news that brings their long-standing social hour to an abrupt halt. And that’s only the beginning as unraveling secrets threaten to alter their friendship forever.

Excerpt:

Lula ripped a piece of paper towel off the roll mounted under the cabinet and mopped the sweat from her brow. She wadded it up, tossed it into the trash can, and tore off two more sheets. She lifted her cotton blouse, and stuffed the paper towel in the damp spots under both breasts. Eek! She really needed to do something about her soft doughy midsection that was getting softer and doughier by the day in spite of her active life. She served meals at homeless shelters and tutored at after school programs for underprivileged children. She tended her perennial garden, cleaned her house from top to bottom once a week, and spent hours on her feet in the kitchen cooking for her family and the sick folks who belonged to her church.

So many of her friends had gone gaga over physical fitness. Midge, her next-door neighbor to her left, pounded the pavement every morning running no fewer than three miles; and Georgia, her neighbor on the other side, attended yoga classes several times a week. The gals in her bridge and book clubs talked incessantly about the exercise classes they attended—spinning and core barre, hot yoga, Pilates, and total body conditioning. Wasn’t boot camp for the Marines? Sixty is the new fifty, blah blah blah. In Lula’s case fifty-five was the new sixty-five and she was darn proud of it. Walking Pooh to the stop sign at the end of the street and back three times a day offered ample exertion. Anything extra might cause her ticker to tock.

Lula heard her cell phone ringing in a distant part of the house. She froze, listening.  But her oldest daughter had already hung up by the time Lula located the phone wedged between the sofa cushions. Brooke knew better than to call her on her cell phone. Lula despised modern technology. She preferred paperback copies over e-books. She wanted her mail delivered by the mailman. And she would rather read a road map than listen to an automated voice on a GPS instructing her where to go. One day all the electronic devices would explode at once and set the world on fire. She laughed out loud at the vision of throngs of tourists walking the downtown streets of Charleston with flaming cell phones pressed to their ears. She’d been having the strangest thoughts lately.

All Lo Campbell wants is to be a normal teenager—to go to one high school, live in one place, and have one real friend. Instead, she travels the country with her mother, chasing the unknown, the “what else” that’s out there…   Until one day, the “what else” chases back.   Determined to rescue her mom from whatever supernatural being took her, Lo will need more help than a badly dressed demon obsessed with country music. She’s going to need a Tracker—and lucky for her, she finds one. Shaw is strong, good-looking, possibly available, and utterly infuriating. Sure, he may have secrets, and his help costs more than a brand-new car, but she’ll have to deal with him if she wants to find her mother—and get her home alive.

My Review:

This book grabbed me and sucked me into its world from page one. The world that the author created was described with vibrant detail, often funny imagery. Throughout the read, I felt as though I was right alongside Lo and Shaw, helping them fight off evil creatures. The book featured multiple settings, jumping from a honky-tonk bar, to a trailer in the woods, to a waterfall, to a rest home, to a mortuary, to a museum, to a boardwalk on the Jersey coast.

I really liked Lo as a character. I felt her pain as she struggled to find her mom. She showed a ton of character growth throughout the book. Although she constantly faces what seems to be impossible odds, she never wavers in her quest to rescue her mom. I found it interesting that the author chose to have Lo and her mother emotionally distanced for the year leading up to the start of the book. I think it made the story more believable and it made Lo's determination to find her mom all the more endearing.

Shaw... What a hottie. He's the silent, stoic, strong type. I sensed from the first moment he appeared in the story that he had depth to him. Although Lo, doubted his affection for her, it was clear to me that his attraction had been growing for her throughout the book. And not just her face or body, but her on the inside. I would have liked to see a bit more connection between them, but I suspect that their relationship will build throughout the rest of the series...whether they like it or not.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, sprinkled with sexual tension, mythical creatures, danger, and plenty of teen angst. Just my kind of book. :)

Excerpt:

The next morning Conrad went to Roland's room, only to find the prince sitting outside of the door, sleeping. Conrad smirked. With swift kick against his shoulder, the prince fell onto the floor with a thud. Roland groaned, rubbing his face as he sat up.
"I see the princess has been keeping true to her vow to punish you whenever you do something stupid."
"Quite the jester you are this morning." He gave a slow mocking laugh and got to his feet. "Her being so jealous was rather adorable, but last night she wasn't cute at all." He rubbed his sore back. "She kicked me out of my own bed and threw me in the hall!"
"Good." Conrad's smirk grew, enjoying his pain. "Maybe it will teach you a lesson, and remind you that you are a married man."
"I might be married, but it doesn't mean I have to ignore every woman for the rest of my life."
"That's exactly what that means."
"That's absurd--" The door opened, smacking the prince in the face. Roland groaned, bringing his hand up to his nose.
The princess smiled. "Hello Conrad."
He greeted back with a nod. "Princess."
She noticed Roland. With an angry huff, she stuck her nose in the air and went down the hall. Conrad patted Roland on the back. "You are married now, get used to unfair things."

About the Author:

I've been writing half of my life, starting at the ripe old age of 13. Back then my favorite pass time was doodling in class, sleeping in class, and studying tests or homework that was due the next class period. But by night I lead a secret life. I would go home, turn on my computer, and get on my dialup Internet (which makes me sound really old) and I would write. At first it was for fun. I was brave back then and posted everything online. In the 14 years I have been writing, I have posted over 1.5 million words, all of which is still available to read for free. My most well known story being "Fun 'N' Games at Ouran". A year or so ago I posted a one-shot that was 50k-60k in words. Afterwards, I looked at it laughing, and said to myself "I think I would like to get paid for this now" and then 'To Betray My King' was born. It seems so simple as I'm sitting here, typing this for you to read, but it's the truth. 'Betray' is my first book, but it won't be my last. I love writing. I would never give it up for anything in the world.

Rebel Cause Teaser 1

Excerpt:
Lindy narrows her eyes at me, and I shake my head.
Maybe it's a good thing. I don't need her to think I'm developing something for her brother...or that I've always had something for him. I squeeze my fists together until my nails bit into my palms. I look up at Kellin.
I don't feel anything different than I've ever felt around him.
He gives me a smile and comes forward to pull me into his arms, tucking his head into my hair. "I missed you, Ree."
I smile as I hug him back, the happiness I always feel around him overtaking any of the odd thoughts I'm having away. He pulls away, looking down at me, and I feel like me.
Just me.
"So why haven't you packed anything?" he asks as he looks around my room, hands in his pockets. He's wearing the heather blue Henley with the hood I bought him for his birthday. He has the sleeves pushed up, and the buttons undone so his tattoos show in all their glory, but he'll be able to hide them if my parents come home.
"I don't know what to bring," I admit.
"You can bring everything if you want," Kellin replies, crossing his arms. "It's our home indefinitely. We don't have to come back for breaks unless we want to."
"Good point...I just don't know where to start," I reply with a shrug.
Kellin gives me a grin, and my skin heats up as our eyes remain locked on each other. I can't look away or stop smiling. I finally turn around, grabbing a box as I chastise myself. This is Kellin-- KELLIN, my best friend's brother. My good friend for four years. He's older. Sexy as hell-- damn it! Off limits, Reese!
I take a deep breath as I feel Kellin behind me.
"Let me give you a hand?" he asks, giving me one of those infectious, crooked-kid-like grins.
"It's an empty box, Kell. I think I can handle it," I reply, nudging him out of the way.
"You sure about that?" he teases, raising an eyebrow at me.
"Ree? You up there?" Mom calls my name, and I look at Kellin frozen as her hand turns the knob to my door.
I jump on his back, pulling down his sleeves as I do and wrapping my arms around his neck to cover his collarbone. Kellin catches my legs and holds me there just as Mom opens the door.
She blinks a few times at us, and I give her a smile.
"Kellin and Lindy came over to help me pack," I say.
"I can see that...but why are you on Kellin's back?" she asks, and I hear Lindy stifle a giggle as Kellin's arms tighten around my legs in panic.
"I was betting him that he couldn't pick me up," I say as I slip one hand under my arm and button the shirt. I slide down his back. "I guess I was wrong!"
Mom looks between Kellin and me before shaking her head. "Well, Reese could really use your help. As you can tell she hasn't even started thinking about moving yet."
"I've been thinking about it. I just haven't done anything yet," I reply.
She rolls her eyes in response. "So I should order a pizza for dinner?"
"That'd be great," Kellin replies as he opens one of my drawers and immediately closes it, placing his hands behind his head as he purses his lips together.
"Found the underwear drawer?" Mom asks as she smirks at him before shutting the door.
Kellin taps his thumbs against his jeans as he looks around the room. "Uh...thanks for that."
I nod as I step past him and open the same drawer and start dropping my bras and underwear into the box in front of him. His eyes find the ceiling as his face turns red. "Really, Ree? You couldn't like wear, I don't know...normal stuff?"
I look up at him as I drop a pair of black lace boy shorts into the box. "What's not normal about them?"
He rubs his face. "You practically wear bags as clothing--and then you wear that underneath?"
I pop my hip out as I lock eyes with him. "Do you like it or something?"
Lindy makes a gagging noise behind him. "Could you guys save the flirting for when I'm not around?"
It's my turn to be embarrassed. I drop the last item into the box and start piling my pajamas, which were pretty close to what I wear every day, on top. Kellin doesn't respond but grabs another empty box and heads to my closet. He pauses, hand on the knob before looking over his shoulder at me.
"Is there anything I need to be cautious of in here?"
I shake my head. "You found the only thing you really wouldn't want to see the first drawer you opened."
Lindy coughs, muttering under her breath, "Who says he didn't want to see it?"
I watch as Kellin's eyebrows twitch, his eyes narrowing on his sister. She shoots him a similar look, and I stand in the middle puzzled.
